Artist in the year of COVID

I hope my art helps you to escape the confinements of COVID-19 emotionally and physically. I am a bit of a hermit so it has not been too much a hardship for me, although, I will admit it has been a bit lonely. What I miss most is being able to run around on the tennis courts, sweat, and be really tired at the end of the day. Eating out has always been one of my favorite things to do. I love eating different foods. These days, creating art has not been as fun. I no longer "get lost" in it.

No longer having insomnia, I've been searching for motivation from elsewhere. That's also a problem. Art creating never needed a motivation before. Honestly, I was a bit worried that my creativity would wane and eventually disappear completely. It almost did. Because of work and some other things, I didn't "doodle" for many months or stay up for weeks to finish a piece. A bit depressed from closing my gallery and trying to sell art at other venues, the visions and images that used to dance in my head every night, all night, were gone. For health reasons, I am grateful that I've overcome insomnia but that affliction was also my overflowing ink well.

Creating art has now become more deliberate and somewhat contrived. It sometimes feels like a competition with myself. It's been in the last several months, being mandated to stay home, listening to my own breathing, Netflix binging, that I realized that some discipline had to be involved. Doodles become drawings. And so what! Paintings became a bit of a chore. Again, so what. In the end I think I produced some interesting and beautiful pieces. I was able to finish some projects that have sat for years. I hope to continue maturing as a fine artist without losing the magic in my head or my hand.
